Intro to Lith Printing with David Chui
This hands-on workshop introduces photographers to the distinctive world of Lith printing—an alternative darkroom process known for its dramatic tonal range: soft, glowing highlights and gritty, contrasty shadows. While Lith printing shares some similarities with traditional silver gelatin printing, key differences in exposure and development give it a completely unique look and feel.
Led by photographer David Chui, the workshop provides a solid foundation in the Lith process through guided, hands-on experience in the darkroom. Participants will learn how to begin experimenting with developer dilutions, A/B ratios, and paper choices to achieve a variety of expressive results.
Toward the end of the session, David will demonstrate a modified Lith/silver hybrid process he developed in his own practice, offering insight into how the technique can be adapted and expanded.
Experience with traditional black-and-white darkroom printing is required.
