In Exposure, Sara May draws on the photographic principle of exposure to explore the layered meanings embedded in the act of being exposed. Be it light hitting film, a body confronting illness, a tree weathering the elements, or a crop engaging with the soil; whether it lasts a millisecond, minutes or years, exposure inherently carries a sense of vulnerability. Paradoxically, it is within that vulnerability that the potential for resilience emerges. May’s images invite viewers to consider how exposure, in its many forms, can deepen empathy and expand our appreciation of the fragile, interwoven systems we inhabit.
